About Us
read moreA Children's Habitat offers a traditional Montessori preschool experience for families seeking a half-day preschool or Kindergarten program and/or a full-day elementary program. Habitat is the oldest Montessori school in Indianapolis, serving families in the area since 1972. It is an environment that recognizes the unique characteristics and capabilities of each child. Teachers are a key element of what makes A Children's Habitat so unique. The Habitat community sets extremely high standards for our teachers, searching extensively for candidates that demonstrate the right combination of a nurturing manner and a passion for the Montessori Method.

read moreWe believe that choosing a school is a process that takes time, and that a family's understanding of a school's educational philosophy is an important part of the school selection process. As such, we require that new families either tour the school (on a scheduled tour appointment or during an Open House), or meet with the Head of School, to learn more about A Children's Habitat. Families can then apply online using TADS, our online application system. A nonrefundable application fee of $50 per child will be required at this time.

read moreThe Toddler program was designed, in part, to help prepare young children to transition successfully to the 3-to-6 program. Since its inception, however, it has developed a unique identity within our school. Montessori philosophy and concepts are introduced in a relaxed atmosphere. Young children are stimulated by activities that challenge, engage, and promote self-esteem and independence. Additionally, toilet training is supported as each child is ready and interested in a no-pressure environment.
