We pride ourselves on being one of the oldest stained glass studios in North America dating back to 1898.

read moreAt the Associated Crafts & Willet Hauser Studio, we photograph each window panel to properly document its pre-restoration condition. The panel is laid out onto a table from which the first rubbing is made. Rubbings are made with a large sheet of paper (kraft and/or archival) laid over the panel indicating the size, shape, and exact location of each of the individual glasses and lead lines. Each rubbing is then annotated as to the lead came sizes and profiles, exact overall dimensions of the panel, and the location of the glasses to be repaired or replaced.

Leaded stained glass windows are made of colored glass, cut to the desired shape and strips of metal - primarily lead - cast or milled to make an 'H' in cross-section, soldered together creating a lead matrix.

read moreFollowing the guidelines of world-recognized conservation experts, Associated Crafts & Willet Hauser maintains a CONSERVATION PHILOSOPHY to preserve the original artwork wherever structurally reasonable. Therefore we do not, as a matter of course, replace individual pieces of cracked or faded painted glass unless individually specified. Once a piece of glass is deemed broken and in need of replacement our studio has the resources to provide the best possible match available. Bulging occurs in most stained glass windows due to years of exposure, heat build-up, gravity, settling, or improper bracing.

Routine inspections can help you prevent damages or the catastrophic loss of your valuable stained glass windows. At the time of the inspection, photos and measurements are taken documenting the current condition of the windows. If there is a catastrophic loss this documentation can be helpful as a blueprint to reproduce the windows.
