In 1944, while owning and operating a hardware store in Austin, C. T. Sterzing bought a water pump to have in stock. After a several years of increasing sales and installations of water pumps from the hardware store, C. T. Started a water well contracting company called Sterzing Drilling. In a very short period of time, Sterzing Drilling grew to 5 drilling rigs and 2 service trucks servicing an area in a 150 mile radius of Austin. In 1954, C. T. Founded Austin Pump & Supply Company as a wholesale distributor of pumps and well provides.
