read moreLeo Zick, Matthew Zick's great-uncle, purchased The Maurice Low Company, a plumbing and heating supply house based in Boston that he had previously work at, in July 1947 after returning from World War II. Shortly after, Leo's brothers, James and John Zick, joined the company to build the business. The business quickly grew and moved into the current Mill Street location in Springfield's South End, previously the Bay State Thread Company which helped make uniforms for the Springfield Armory. The larger location with over 50,000 square feet of warehouse space and pipe yard gave customers the ability to choose from thousands of products in stock.
