About Us
read moreThe BIRD Clinic Veterinary Corporation was originally founded in 1987 by Larry Nemetz, DVM, as a specialty veterinary practice dedicated to advanced diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of medical conditions in ONLY avian patients. Our mission is to provide excellent avian veterinary care for the birds of our clients and those of the many vets that refer to The BIRD Clinic. Our overall vision is to disseminate current and breakthrough technologies to veterinarians throughout the world and raise the bar for avian veterinary care, treatment, and prevention of medical conditions in ONLY avian patients.

Payment Policies
read moreWe are a "Fee for Service" practice, which means fees are due and payable at the time of your appointment. The fees for our services are usual and customary in conducting a highly specialized avian practice. A written estimate will be given and a deposit is required prior to a patient's admission for surgery or hospitalization. The balance of the bill is due upon completion of your pet's treatment. We accept the following forms of payment for your convenience.
Radiology
read moreThe definition of a radiograph is a composite shadow of structures and objects in the path of an x-ray beam recorded on film (emulsion or digital). Because a radiograph is, in essence, a "shadowgraph", produced following geometric rules, a veterinarian uses this knowledge to interpret these "shadows" based on the animals anatomy to create a three-dimensional mental image from a series of two-dimensional images. Unfortunately, a radiograph is more complex than just a simple shadowgraph because we see more than just the borders of each organ.
Retail Store
read moreWe are so excited! After expanding our retail section at The BIRD Clinic years ago, our clients and bird owners response was better than we expected. With each new top quality product made available in a "brick and mortar" setting, not by special order, not by mail, not by internet, we met with a very positive feedback. We took it one more big step forward in 2014 and created "birdStuff", an independent bird supply store that carries ".all the best stuff for the discriminating parrot" and a boarding facility where "the only place safer is home".
Necropsy
read moreNecropsy (Ne'crop-sy) is the act of examination of an animal after death. This is often confused with Autopsy (Au'top-sy) from the Latin derivation "examination of one-self after death". This term is reserved for use only in humans. When one of our beloved pet birds die, it is a great loss, but sometimes the reason for the death can give insight, closure and often save the life of another pet or even a human living in the same home. A necropsy at The BIRD Clinic is a full external and internal visual examination of all the bird's organs, which will give an indication as to the cause of death.
FAQ's
read moreAs people relocate to various parts of this globe, how does one find a GOOD avian veterinarian? We recommend the following: 1. They should be a member of AAV, an organization that promotes advanced avian medicine. 2. One should call pet stores/other vets in the area for a referral. Usually, one or two names will come up often if the avian vet has an established well-respected practice. 3. Call the clinic you are thinking of visiting and ask how many birds they see per month. This is most critical if they see only a few, as it is difficult for a veterinarian to stay current on avian medicine if they spend most of their time treating dogs and cats.
Grooming
read moreGrooming includes elective procedures to help our birds "stay" with us (wing clipping) and assist their natural grooming ritual (nail trims) to avoid getting caught on cage bars, clothing, carpeting or various toys. The nature of even a very professional grooming procedure (i.e. the bird must be restrained) induces stress and a change in the bird's physiological state. There are many subclinical conditions such as heart disease, low blood calcium, obesity, etc. that may cause serious complications during this otherwise short procedure.
