Burkville Memorial United Methodist Church In 1834 a church was built is Burkville, Alabama as part of the Methodist Episcopal Union. Later it became Burkville Memorial United Methodist Church. Church Services were held on the fifth Sunday, with Sunday School each Sunday. Later services were held on every fourth Sunday, and still later, every Sunday with a Lay Speaker. The tradition of dinner on the fifth Sunday was begun and continues today. In the 1950's, a Sunday School and Activity building was built, and soon after, a cemetery was began on the original grounds.
