In 1959, seven civilian workers at the Norfolk Naval Air Station invested $5 each and chartered a federal credit union. More than fifty years later, their inspiration has helped us become one of the biggest credit unions in the country. Chartway is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution - a cooperative association where every person is an owner and profits are returned to its members. Our corporate philosophy is built on two guiding principles: to do whatever it takes to aid every member reach his or her aims dreams and to aid enrich and assist our hometown communities in times of both prosperity and need.
