Early in 1901, 32 men met in a downtown Elgin office to lease an 80 acre tract of the Weld Farm and founded Elgin Country Club. The property was situated on dramatic terrain carved by receding glaciers 25,000 years ago. Using a design developed by Tom Bendelow, in July of that year a 2,936 yard, Par 36 9-hole layout opened for play.

He is a Certified General Manager and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, beginning his hospitality industry career as an Executive Chef. In addition, Doug has served on the Board of Directors of The Club Managers Association of America (CMAA); served as CMAA Education Chair; has participated in the Chaine des Rotisseurs, an association honoring gastronomic enthusiasts; and has received club industry achievement awards including the 2001 Club Leaders Forum "Top Gun Award".
