WARNING: DO NOT USE ELLIS TOWING! We had called them to have our car towed due to faulty breaks from my husband’s place of employment to our house. The driver, who we later find out is the owner, Shawn Ellis, took the car onto his flatbed truck. My husband had paid him in cash (our mistake) to take his car to our house. After looking at his website and his truck, we figured we had nothing to worry about. We were WRONG. Mr. Ellis dropped the car off at our house and hit our garage door in the process. He called my husband to tell him that he had hit it and there was a small dent, but that he did not want to take full responsibility for it because the car had no breaks (hello! That’s why we were having it towed!) After coming home from work to assess the damage, both bottom panels of the garage door were completely damaged. We tried multiple times to call him and he would either hang up on us or not answer. We had no choice but to file a police report. The police officer suggested we go to the office locations listed on the business card and website to obtain Ellis Towing liability insurance information. The next day we both had to leave work early to make sure we went during business hours. The first location we went to 1135 Mitchell Road, Aurora, IL 60505 had no sign of “Ellis Towing” when we asked neighboring business they reported he hasn’t been at that location in over a year. The other location 1580 W. Ogden Ave, Naperville IL 60540 turned out to also be a fake location as there were many car business’ there but no signs of Ellis Towing. Back to the police station, they tried calling Mr. Ellis with no luck. We now are in the process of filing a complaint with the ICC and a civil complaint in small claims court. The police also suggested that we file a complaint to put a lien against his company and hire a lawyer. We have a garage door company coming out to officially assess the damage but have so far estimated it to be upwards of $500.00. All in all, what a mistake...
