Excel Academy Charter School

Middle School in Boston, MA
Middle School in Boston, MA The school received its charter from the Massachusetts Department of Education in February of 2003, and we opened our doors in September of that year driven by a clear mission: to prepare our students to succeed in high school and college, apply their learning to solve relevant problems, and engage productively in their communities. We sought to realize this mission by providing a rigorous, college-preparatory school curriculum supported by a structured school culture.

Excel Academy Charter School
read moreEach year, over 2,000 people apply to work at our schools, making Excel an employer of choice for passionate, hard-working, idealistic people who want to have an impact on young people. Excel is a public school district and therefore a majority of our budget is covered by the state's per-pupil reimbursement. However, Excel raises private money while in growth mode. In 2015, Excel raised over $3.5 million to support the growth of our organization and our new high school building. Excel hosts an average of 450 people annually from around the country, primarily other educators, who come to observe our schools in action.
About Us
read moreExcel Academy was founded in Massachusetts in 2003 with the mission to provide a high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea, communities that are predominantly low-income and Latinx and historically have faced significant social and educational barriers. Our success in Massachusetts is proof that the opportunity gap can be closed. Founded in 2003, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students and 240 staff members serving grades 5 to 12.
Family Stories
read moreRenee Hibbard, of Chelsea, adopted her son TJ at the age of four, who lived in seven different foster homes up until that time. TJ, now a 7th grader at Excel Academy - East Boston, attended two different traditional public schools prior to enrolling at Excel. Renee has a compelling story to tell and there are many parents who have similarly challenging stories to share. But the common denominator for all of our families is that they appreciate that Excel Academy is providing their children with a high-quality public education that will prepare each of them for the future, including college.
