When I come through the Cemetery stone entrance, it's bittersweet. It's sad, but a very peaceful and quiet place. It's a sacred space to remember your loved one, while praying and walking along the tree-lined roads with the beautiful sky, mountain views and monuments. Fair View is the most recognized cemetery in the area, for both its historic past and its rare dedication to preserving and enhancing the beautiful grounds for futuregenerations. In 1890, when Roanoke was known as "Big Lick", a small group of leading citizens developed Fair View, one of the first privately owned cemeteries for public use in Virginia.
