Music Lessons in Columbia, SC Freeway Music is one of the nicest private lesson studios in Columbia and South Carolina. We offer instruction and many various instruments. Our teachers are professional and personable. Our facilities are spacious and fully dedicated to private instruction. The recitals at Freeway Music are unmatched. We have solo recitals, rock band recitals, ensemble recitals, and even original music recitals. We allow our students to choose the path they want, any style and any direction. Our students have had great accomplishments, even teaching at several other music schools in Columbia. We are located near grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping. read moreJesse is a graduate of Presbyterian College with a Bachelors Degree in Music. He is fully qualified to teach music theory, songwriting, ear-training, improvisation, and sight reading. Jesse has taught various workshops covering these and other subjects.

Many students come to lessons wanting to learn specific songs on guitar or piano. Jesse has covered pieces from Metallica to Hymns and many things in between. Hes been playing in bands ranging from rock, blues, jazz, bluegrass, classical, and folk  since he was 13 years old.

Jesse is full of experience that he brings to each lesson to make sure that the student enjoys their time with him no matter the subject.

After finishing his bachelors degree in music industry from SC State University, he also received his masters degree from The University of South Carolina in Jazz Studies. He has toured extensively with Fred Wesley and the New JBs and has shared to the stage with many others as well.

read moreJenna directed a vocal jazz ensemble, a jazz combo, and applied jazz piano lessons at the University of Northern Colorado, and she serves as adjunct faculty at Northwest College, where she teaches applied jazz piano lessons. She has served as an instructor at the University of Minnesota, Morris Jazz Camp and at the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Camp, and she enjoys teaching individual lessons in piano and voice.

read moreBianca Marini is a graduate of Newberry College. With a degree in vocal performance in hand, the goals she set as a small girl singing for her church family are culminated. However, her dreams of becoming a true performing artist are just beginning. Leading roles include Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Ann Collier (The 1940s Radio Hour), as well as soprano soloist for Newberry College Singers production of Handels Messiah, and several of the Newberry College Music Department Composer Series including Lerner, Lowe, and the Like singing Candides Glitter and Be Gay, and A Little Night Music: Mozart singing Le Nozze di Figaros Deh Vieni, Non Tardar. Other accomplishments include Franz Schuberts Der Hirt auf dem Felsen (featured soprano), and Francis Poulencs La Courte Paille (featured soprano).
Kyle MacCallum
Guitar
read moreKyle has been playing the guitar for six years, since he was 13 years old. He has a passion for all types of music, and formed his first band, Interpreter, when he was 16. They appeared regularly at New Brookland Tavern, in Columbia, SC for over 2 years before Kyle began pursuing Celtic music, forming his current band, SYR, in 2010. After several events at various Irish pubs, they became the house band at the British Bulldog Pub.

Kyle is also an accomplished songwriter. In his first national songwriting contest, The National Fine Arts Program (AOG), he placed fifth out of over 500 contestants, singing and playing acoustic guitar.

Kyle has a strong musical heritage on his mothers side. Anne MacCallum has written and produced three CDs in America, has one CD released in Germany, and travels nationally singing and performing. Kyle plays and sings on her latest CD, a Celtic project, that allows them to share their common musical interest.
Idris Chandler
Cello, Violin, Violo, And Double Bass
read moreIdris Chandler has been studying cello and performing for over twenty years. He has taught in public schools for over seven years.

He has studied under Dr. Robert Jesselson, cello professor at the University of South Carolina, and former president of the American String Teachers Association for nine of those years, earning a Bachelor of Music Education. Mr. Chandler has performed with orchestras in the Carolinas including the South Carolina and Charlotte Philharmonic. He is a former student and teacher of the USC String Project and provides instruction on violin, viola and double bass.

He participates in activities in area schools including sectionals, judging, seating auditions, and private lessons.

He is thankful to have been invited to perform at area venues, with the likes of Ray Charles, Edwin McCain and Lou Rawls. He currently performs with the Resonance String Quartet. Providing the string arrangements and background vocals, he is a member of the guitar/cello duo DayClean which combines elements of soul, folk, and hip-hop to create a unique and eclectic sound.

We hold events at local establishments and drive a lot of business to our local economy at such places as: The British Bulldog, The Old Mill Brew Pub, Wild Wing Cafe, Drip Coffee, The Peanut Man, Tin Roof, Music Farm, Social Bar and Grill, Beef O Brady's, Delaney's Music Pub and New Brookland Tavern, and many more!
read moreClasses are held in the spring and fall, and meet on Tuesdays from 7pm-8pm, and run for 12 weeks. These group classes are led by Jessica Skinner Sims from the Columbia, SC band, Prettier Than Matt. Participation can be purchased for half or full semesters (virtual option available). Song booklets and any additional music added during the semester are included. You may also participate in any performance opportunities SipN'Strum may have during the semester, e.g. Freeway Music Showcases, etc.
