About Us
read moreGood Guy Home Improvements LLC was created in April 2006, named by my wife. I have always loved construction, since the first house I built out of Lincoln Logs when I was about 5 years old. I grew up in a family of Electricians (Grandfather, Great Uncle, Dad, Brother, and Cousin). I worked some in the electrical field around the Dayton area, in GM plants, WPAF base, Chrysler, etc., but decided to take a different path as a General Contractor and I love it. We are in our 11th year of business, I couldn't be happier with the people I have surrounded myself with.
Basement Remodeling
read moreIf you feel that your basement isn't being used optimally, you should consider getting the space remodeled. Basement refinishing and remodeling is a popular trend with modern day homeowners and over the years we have helped transform many little-used basements into entertainment zones, TV rooms, bar spaces, guest bedrooms, kitchens and even home office spaces. When it comes to improving the functionality of your basement the sky is the limit in terms of the options available to you. However, these projects represent a significant investment and you need to hire basement renovation contractors that would be able to provide you solutions that are right in line with your vision for that space.
Why Choose Us
read moreWe don't take any money up front. You don't write the first check until your basement is completely framed up. Also if you need financing we offer it through Day Air Credit Union unsecured up to $25,000. 3. We use fire blocking foam on our fire blocking seams even though code doesn't require it. We don't just want to slow the spread of fire, we would rather it get starved from oxygen and go out. 4. All the door casing trim and baseboard trim we use is made of actual wood not MDF, which is just compressed cardboard that will swell up and get destroyed with just a little contact with water.
Painting Services
read morePicking out colors for your home can be really difficult. It is best to get samples and apply them to the walls instead of just holding a small paint swatch against them. Samples may only come in an eggshell sheen so keep that in mind as well, because if you are going with a flat or satin sheen the color could look slightly off compared to the eggshell. Sheen is the amount of shine in the paint. Flat has no shine and High Gloss has the most. Colors that are light and flat will hide the most drywall flaws so it is good to choose lighter colors with the least sheen in say two story foyers with a lot of sunlight coming into the area.
Interior Painting
read moreInterior painting can last many years if done correctly. Make sure the surface is clean and remove any loose paint. I find it best to plug holes with 20 minute drywall mud found at Lowe's or Home Depot. It comes in a white bag in powder form and you mix it with a little bit of water in a small bucket with a small drywall knife. It only takes 20 minutes to dry and it won't shrink like the small tubes of spackling, allowing you to completely hide the holes or cracks that were once there. Higher sheen paints such as semi-gloss or satin should be used in Kitchens and Bathrooms because they wash well and repel water or steam.
Bathroom Ideas
read moreNeed some ideas on bathroom remodeling let us come out and discuss possible solutions while trying to stay in your budget. Whether you want an inexpensive fresh look, like new vinyl flooring, faucets, and a paint job or you want to add elegance, value, create a serene, peaceful place to relax, we can accomplish what you desire in your bathroom design. We can help you with your bathroom design and create a beautiful bathroom that you will enjoy as long as live in the home and make a profit on when you sell.
Painting Techniques
read morePower washing and sealing is mainly for concrete and paver driveways, patios, sidewalks, and garage floors. We use a high pressure surface cleaner for these jobs and when necessary for those super dirty surfaces we add a chemical mix and heat to the water. We can make most surfaces look close to new again. We highly recommend you seal those same areas before winter. If they aren't sealed water can penetrate in the winter then freeze which causes those pits. Unsealed surfaces will deteriorate quickly and shorten the life of the concrete or paver surface.
Basement Remodeling
read moreI (Joe Taulbee) started Good Guy Home Improvements over 11 years ago in April of 2006. There isn't much that I haven't done in that period of time but I have to say finishing basements is my favorite thing to do residentially. Estimates are free so if you are thinking of finishing your basement I would love to hear from you to set up a meeting to discuss your basement. The cost to finish your basement with Good Guy Home Improvements averages $30 a square foot today 6-7-17. So a 1,000 square foot basement will cost around $30,000 to finish.
