If you're unfamiliar with our church, some of what you learn may surprise you. The ELCA is an engaged, active body of people who put faith in God into action - in millions of ways, all over the world.

read moreAt Good Shepherd, Outreach/Service is embraced and encouraged both locally and globally. Our members truly care about others. Outreach programs are organized and implemented by various groups, committees, and church-wide activities.
Service Team
read moreThe mission of this team is to share God's love demonstrating our Christian faith, and to serve those in the local and global community. We will use Good Shepherd's spiritual gifts and financial resources to help meet the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of others- especially those in greatest need. The service team usually meets the first Monday or Tuesday of the month in Room 205. Each month the team has a "theme" which helps guide them in selecting recipients for that month's benevolence fund disbursements.
Our Story
read moreGood Shepherd's roots began when a number of young couples moved into the area in the mid-1950's seeking an alternative to the large established Lutheran churches along Manchester Road. Mount Tabor Lutheran Church first met as a Christian body on October 25, 1956, and a month later held its first worship service in a single room in the United Neighbors Building. Folding chairs were used instead of pews and a stove in the middle of the room provided the congregation with physical warmth. Twenty communicant members and 14 children attended the charter service on January 27, 1957, with Professor David Schuller serving as interim preacher and Reverend Elmer Maschoff as interim pastor.
