The Hamil Family Funeral Home is somewhat of a new beginning to a longtime heritage of funeral service to Abilene. The family 1st started in the funeral business in 1933. Pete & Mittie Elliott established Elliott's Funeral Home in 1933. Their daughter, Jo Ann Elliott, joined her parents in the funeral home business in the 1950's. She married John Hamil in 1958, who was a funeral manager that worked for the Elliott's. In 1967, Pete Elliott passed away and John and Jo Ann Hamil along with Mittie Elliott continued to operate the business. In 1973, the name of the business was changed to Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
