read morePressure washing is the bare minimum of cleaning methods recommended for preparation of exterior surfaces prior to painting or refinishing. Exterior paint will chalk overtime when exposed to the sun, and this chalked film is unstable and will break the bond of any future paint coatings applied over it. It is important to remove all the chalked film prior to coating, or you will have a very short life paint system, regardless of the quality or performance characteristics of the paint. Normal pressure washing in the 2,400 to 4,000 psi range (pounds per square inch) will remove the chalked film, and can also remove light surface corrosion in preparation of applying a coating system.
