Historically Credit Card Merchant Accounts were offered by bank members of the Visa or Master Card networks. Typically banks issued credit cards and helped businesses with their ACH processing of Merchant Accounts. Over time the industry consolidated and now few merchants use local banks as their Arizona Merchant Services Provider. Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo and the other banks found it very expensive to employ sales representatives to convince every tiny business to process credit cards, and they started outsourcing ACH processing merchant account services to firms called ISO's (Independent Sales Organizations)
