In 1995, Alice Kay Kanack moved back to her hometown of Brighton, after having spent ten years teaching and performing in New York City. The Kanack School started with a few students in an apartment and grew very rapidly into what is now a young but vibrant educational institution operating out of it's building on South Clinton Avenue in Brighton. The Kanack School has a faculty of about 20 well-educated and highly esteemed musicians and dancers.

read moreThe Kanack School of Musical Artistry has had a rich history in the Rochester community for over 20 years. We provide students of all ages a warm, disciplined, and non-competitive environment in which to develop their musical artistry. Because the school was founded on a combination of the philosophy of Creative Ability Development and the Suzuki Method, we strongly believe groups classes are crucial to the growth of musical artistry. Any day of the week students have access to many classes. CAD improvisation classes, Suzuki repertoire classes, orchestra, fiddle, bluegrass bands, music theory and composition, chorus, opera and musical theater scenes, and piano duets are all available to our students.
read moreThe Kanack School of Musical Artistry continues to offer weekly group classes for our students. Several classes will be offered both in person and online. Below you will find a weekly schedule and a description of each class. As the temperature drops, we are transitioning from our outdoor tent to the large main room in our building. The room is now equipped with high-tech HEPA air filters to clean and circulate the air and students will be spaced at leasts 6 feet apart and will wear masks while in the building.
