The Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) serves an ethnically and culturally diverse community through programs designed to both alleviate hardship and promote health, individual responsibility, and economic independence. The Department supplies the following benefits and services to low-income residents of Los Angeles County:Temporary financial assistance and employment services for individuals and families;Free and low-cost health care insurance for families with kids, pregnant women and aged/ blind/disabled adults; Food benefits for individuals and families; In-home services for elderly and disabled individuals; and Financial assistance and advocacy for federal disability benefits for disabled individuals.
