Mississippi Bar Associates
Bar Club in Jackson, MS
Historians have recognized the 1st state bar association in the US as being organized in Natchez by a group of Mississippi lawyers in 1821. The association was created for the goal of mutual instruction and protection, and for the honor and respectability of the entire bar of the state. This voluntary organization, however, remained active for only four years and was not reorganized until 1886, when an organizational meeting was held for the election of officers and the adoption of a constitution and by-laws.
