More Moe's Art & Antiquarian
Book Store in Berkeley, CA
Established in 1959 by Moe Moskowitz and his then wife Barbara, the original store front was a tiny shop N of University Avenue on Shattuck. A couple years later, Moe moved to Telegraph Ave. Just in time for the Free Speech Movement's beginnings. During the Vietnam protests, Telegraph and the whole South Side area of UC Berkeley became the flashpoint for numerous run-ins with the police and national guard. When curfews were called by the authorities, Moe would refuse to close his doors, stating that people were free to walk on the streets.
