As an LTACH, we concentrate on delivering a higher level of acute care for a longer period of time. Think of us as the transition step between a hospital intensive care unit and skilled nursing or rehab, delivering treatment-level, rather than diagnostic-level, care. LTACHs are focused on patients with serious medical problems who require intense, special treatment for a long time (usually about 20-thirty days) These patients often transfer from intensive care units in traditional hospitals. It would not be unusual for an LTACH patient to need ventilator or other life support medical assistance.
