Old Shillelagh
Bar Club in Detroit, MI
John Brady and Charlie Taylor opened the Old Shillelagh in February of 1975. It was an immediate success. Charlie, a singer, brought in his fans, and John who had lived part of his boyhood in Dublin, kept the place oiled and running. Later that year they exercised their option to buy the building and immediately started remodeling the 2nd floor. On Parade Sunday 1976, the upstairs officially opened. That same year Charlie sold his half of the business to John, who then brought in his wife Marlis to aid him and the success story continued.

The second floor was added only one year later, on parade Sunday 1976. In 1977, fire almost claimed the Old Shillelagh. In 1986, John passed the torch to his daughter, Barb. In 1987 her vision is what led to the massive, circus style tent party we now have every St. Patrick's Day. In 2005, a third generation took the reigns of the Old Shillelagh.
