Middle School in Philadelphia, PA PSD is the third oldest school for the Deaf in the US and was established in 1820. PSD supplies a complete educational program for over 225 students ages 3-21. PSD's Early Intervention program for infants and toddlers age 0-3 supplies family support and child development activities immediately following the identification of a hearing loss. PSD educates a diverse student body from its urban environment within the city of Philadelphia.

We wish to recognize the responsibility entrusted to us to educate the deaf and hard-of-hearing in Southern Pennsylvania. We value our place in history, and pledge to uphold the legacy as leaders in the field of Deaf Education. read moreOur team of professionals provides the following services to nurture the learning and growth of each child. These related services, and the specially designed instruction that is recommended, are critical to our students' success. Support services may be integrated in the classroom and/or provided as pullout, as indicated for individual students. Planning and consultation in a multidisciplinary team approach assures maximum benefit from the services provided. ASL specialists provide ASL support to Deaf students between the ages of 3 to 21. Deaf students meet individual developmental language milestones through consultation, integrated services and classroom instruction.

read morePSD's curriculum is responsive to the needs of students, the talents of staff, the changing world in which we live, and the mandates of national/state agendas. Aligned with the Pennsylvania Common Core Standards, our curriculum is vertically and horizontally articulated to address the knowledge/skills and content in each subject area, across the age/grade levels. Each student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which reflects the specific curricula skills being targeted each year in the student's program.
