On July 1 1920, Lexington Clinic started its commitment of delivering quality health care services to Central Kentucky. The idea of forming a clinic for group practice was implemented by two doctors, David Barrow, M. D. And Waller O. Bullock, M. D. They, together with seven other physicians, established a partnership patterned after the Mayo Clinic. Its early years were marked by many medical firsts. Dr. Elmer S. Maxwell, who joined the Clinic on October 1, 1920, was the 1st pathologist in Lexington. Under Dr. Maxwell's guidance, with the cooperation of the University of Kentucky, Lexington Clinic founded a school for medical technologists.
