I'm a Washington State Certified Public Accountant (CPA) originally licensed in 1998 (license #19988) What does it mean to be a CPA? CPAs are distinguished from other kinds of accountants by stringent licensing needs. To qualify for a state license, CPAs must have a college degree, pass a rigorous national examination, and meet experience needs. Once licensed, CPAs are governed by a strict code of professional conduct that requires them to maintain objectivity and integrity in all engagements, including tiny business bookkeeping and payroll services.
