Rex
Restaurant in Billings, MT
In 1919, Alfred Heimer, Buffalo Bill Cody's chef for his Wild West Show, decided to settle in Billings and build a bar and restaurant on Montana Avenue across from the train station. With financial aid from Cody, Heimer built The Rex Hotel. Originally two stories, the Rex was one of the finest places to stay in town and the Buffalo Bill Bar was the premier meeting place. Advertising claimed, Cold beer and nice German lunches. In 1917, a 3rd floor was added to the Hotel and business continued to flourish. For a time, the Rex was frequented by the colorful likes of Will James, Calamity Jane and Buffalo Bill.
