From the beginning of the creation of library literacy programs by the California State Library in 1984, library programs in Southern California have been meeting to share resources and ideas, and address literacy issues. The Southern California Library Literacy Network (SCLLN) was formalized in 1985. The pioneering libraries which participated in the 1st year of the California Literacy Campaign (CLC) were. Since 1985, both SCLLN and CLC have grown. CLC is now California Library Literacy Services (CLLS) with over one hundred participating libraries around the state.
