St Hyacinth Church

Welcome to the Saint Hyacinth webpage. Saint Hyacinth is situated on the eastside of Detroit in an area commonly known as Poletown. Saint Hyacinth Parish was established in 1907. During this time, the Polish population in the Detroit area was growing rapidly. Face with an ever-increasing number of Poles N and E of Saint Albertus Parish, Bishop John Foley was prompted to establish a new Polish parish. Bishop Foley challenged the Rev. Father Sylvester Kolkiewicz to develop a new parish to cover the growing Polish population of this area. Father Kolkiewicz accepted this tremendous challenge. On May 8, 1907 Saint Hyacinth Roman Catholic Church was established.
