The Suicide Prevention Center, originally established in 1958 as the Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Center, was the 1st in the country to supply a 24hr suicide prevention crisis line and use community volunteers in delivering hotline service. The Crisis Line is widely recognized as having developed the telephone crisis intervention model used by most crisis centers and hotlines across the nation and in the world. It operates with a team of more than 150 trained volunteers, serving callers throughout Southern California, and has been an important part of Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center since 1997.
