With the rainy weather, we currently have seen a dramatic increase in the number of Giardia cases at our hospital, even among dogs that spend most of their days indoors. This small parasite is what causes hiker's diarrhea in people. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss in your pet, and you can get it from your pet too. We strongly recommend that all pets be tested for Giardia so that we can treat them and aid prevent you and your family from getting ill. Just bring in a fresh stool sample and we will send it to the lab for testing.
