In 1989 Ron and Mechelle Yates opened their retail store, California Coin & Jewelry in Modesto, CA. The store bought and sold fine jewelry and rare coins from private individuals, estates and others. The wide majority of the pre-owned (we call it pre-loved) jewelry that was purchased from the public was resold to jewelry wholesalers and other local retailers. After few years, the focus of the business was changed to service the requirements of our growing client base. Instead of selling our estate jewelry primarily to other jewelry stores we now provided the savings on the fine jewelry and diamonds to our own clients 1st. The name was changed to Yates & Co Jewelers.
