For almost fifty years, YDC has worked with the personal child, the family, the neighborhood and the learning environment in a coordinated effort to raise the level of academic and personal satisfaction in our customers. Most of YDC's customers are local residents and are low income as documented by U. S. Census, and/or Free and Reduced Lunch Program eligibility. YDC reaches out to the community by delivering direct therapeutic services, both on and off-site, to high-risk kids and their families.

We work to attain effective personal, family, and community functioning through outpatient services, school consultation and counseling, and personal development. In close partnership with educational and social service organizations, we work to meet the behavioral and mental health needs of local families, using empirically-based and culturally-relevant methods for cultivating social, emotional, and educational well being - things we believe every child deserves.

read moreThe Youth Development Clinic was founded in 1958 as a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization by a consortium of Newark residents, the Prudential Insurance Company of America, and the Newark Board of Education. We provide services to children in schools and community-based settings, as well as in our outpatient clinic in downtown Newark, New Jersey. We counsel those with significant behavioral and emotional needs, working to stabilize their behaviors and foster learning. We also provide consultation to school staff to support and manage students and effectively maximize their educational attainment with minimal disruptions to the classroom.
read moreAs a Medicaid licensed outpatient clinic, YDC offers individual and family therapy focused on behavioral health counseling for children and youth, along with their parents and/or caregivers. We utilize a variety of evidence-based techniques including play therapy, Trauma-focused Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as cognitive-behavioral approaches to intervene with common childhood problems such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, High functioning Autism, selective mutism, trauma, chronic stress and abuse, oppositional-defiance, and parent-child interactional problems.
