No rings (means less glare and halos) on a full range of vision multifocal intra-ocular lens!  Yes amazing day 1 vision, 20/25 at distance and J1 at near, day 1 after surgery with a dilated pupil and TM (dropless medicine) still in the eye.

Congratulations to Bernard Spier, M.D. (Northern New Jersey Eye Institute) for being the first surgeon in New Jersey to successfully implant the ClearView™️ 3 Multifocal IOL. The ClearView 3 is the first and only FDA approved MIOL without concentric rings, providing patients a full range of vision and low reported visual disturbances.

Charles J. Crane MD recently performed the first two of a new glaucoma procedure in New Jersey.  The Glaukos iStent infinite® Trabecular Micro-Bypass System is an implant of 3 microstents which reduce the intraocular pressure (IOP) of the eye.  It is indicated for use in adult patients with primary open-angle glaucoma in whom previous medical and surgical treatment has failed.

Dr. Crane was one of 20 international physicians to be a Principal Investigator in the Clinical Trials which helped bring this technology to market. The device received clearance by the FDA earlier this year.

Dr. Spier attended the ESCRS Meeting in Amsterdam October 2021.

A Broad Array of Laser Vision Correction Options

Laser Vision Correction New JerseyDespite a considerable amount of press over the past decade, many people are still unsure about the specifics of a LASIK procedure. Simply put, LASIK is a safe, reliable, and painless laser surgery that corrects and improves vision - enabling people who used to need glasses or contact lenses to see clearly. The procedure is meant to treat eye disorders like nearsightedness and farsightedness, as well as astigmatism, by changing the way light is refracted as it passes through the cornea, so the retina can focus properly and objects can be seen clearly. This Laser Vision Correction procedure is completed by reshaping the cornea and changing the way light is refracted, with the end result being near-perfect vision – and patients can lose the eyeglasses and/or contact lenses permanently!

pelleve treatment at NNJIEAt NNJEI, we perform a variety of additional refractive surgeries including: IntraLase, LASEK, PRK and Wavefront. IntraLase makes use of the IntraLase® FS laser, an extremely precise tool which aids corneal flap creation, the first step in laser vision correction surgery. During the procedure, the IntraLase® laser fires up to 15,000 pulses per second into the cornea, so the flap can be custom created by a skilled eye surgeon who will determine the optimum depth and diameter for the flap, on a patient-by-patient basis. In addition to benefiting from this pinpoint (2-3 micron) accuracy, patients who undergo surgical procedures conducted with the IntraLase® laser are less likely to need an enhancement (follow-up) procedure, compared to surgeries performed with other technologies.

Many of our procedures take less than 30 minutes, and recovery time is so short that many patients experience improvements in their vision the day after the surgery. To learn more about the various eye corrective procedures that we specialize in, and to learn more about which one is right for your personal situation, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with our experienced physicians at one of our New Jersey Laser Vision Correction clinics by clicking here.

About NNJEI's Cataract Surgery Procedures

NJ Cataract SurgeryDuring cataract replacement, the lens is removed and replaced with an artificial one called an intraocular lens or IOL. Crystalens is a new cataract replacement lens (IOL) that works naturally with muscles in the eye to retain the eye’s ability to "accommodate" – shift focus between nearby and distant objects – after cataract surgery. With other IOLs, patients lose this ability and require corrective measures such as glasses or contact lenses.

Glaucoma Treatment at the Northern New Jersey Eye Institute

NNJEI is committed to fighting glaucoma – which is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. The condition often develops over many years, without causing pain or other noticeable symptoms – hence many people not experience vision loss until the disease has progressed. For this reason, our vision correction centers throughout northern New Jersey offer comprehensive testing for the early detection of glaucoma, in addition to medication and surgery, if detected. Thankfully, once the disease has been properly diagnosed, glaucoma can be controlled. Treatments to lower pressure in the eye include non-surgical methods such as prescription eye drops and medications, laser therapy, and surgery.
