Replace or Restore - Material Matters !

A completely restored original wood window will easily last another 75-100 years.

Original wood windows made between during the 19th & 20th Century were handcrafted out of Old Growth Wood Species:  Southern Yellow pine, Cypress or Mahogany, to name a few.

These old growth wood species have

  • Very high Natural resin content,

  • Exceptionally resistant to insect and rot damage

  • very dense growth rings,

  • Will remain structurally sound for 100’s of Years !

  Reasons to Restore windows:

  • Energy savings is achieved by bringing 21st Century Glass and Weather-stripping technology to your 19th Century Wood window.

  • Your old windows are worthy of restoring; even the in the worse condition the Bi-Glass System can make them functional and visually appealing once again.

  • Once your original windows are replaced, there is no turning back.

  • Let the sun shine in. Did you know replacement windows make the sash smaller, downsizing the glass? This means less natural sunlight into your home.

    Misleading Ideas about replacement windows:

  • Newer is better. Many replacement windows need replacement after a 15-30 years.

  • Replacement windows are more energy-efficient. Not necessarily ! After a full restoration and installation of new weather-stripping Bi-Glass windows come very close to matching most replacement units.

How many items manufactured in the 21st Century are made to last more than 25 to 30 years ?

The Goal: Exceed your Expectations

I only use the best materials, and time proven methods to restore your windows. I bring the mobile woodshop to your home so that “fit and finish” can be optimized. All project proposals include more than two dozen (24) references.

  • I hand pick every piece of mahogany or hardwood stock,

  • The bulb gasket weather-stripping is extruded 100% silicone, not PVC which loses elasticity,

  • All sash chain is chemically plated brass, not “plated” steel that rusts over time,

  • The insulated glass is factory made here in South Attleboro, MA. and uses the highest quality Low-E coatings and Warm Edge Spacers.

    Ken, Watertown, MA

  • I had my windows restored in December. I was very happy with the job. I knew I wanted the windows on my home restored because preserving the look of our home was a big deal. I felt that as long as I have wood windows, especially old growth wood windows, restoration was my best option. After my wife and I did some research we hired Boston Bi Glass and we could not have made a better choice. It also made my wife happy that there was no clean up! The crew was very courteous and neat.

    Reid (Wakefield)

  • I would highly recommend Boston bi-glass. They were great and very flexible. Never felt like it was a construction zone. They cleaned up every day. There were no hidden cost, one of the technicians came back a few times because the work was done in the summer and windows had swelling. The customer services was great, he adjusted them at no cost. The difference in my utility bill is already noticeable.

    Jim (West Roxbury)

  • I was very satisfied with the work that was done on my windows. Throughout the process they communicated well and were very neat. The estimate also reflected the final prices, which is not usually my experience. I notice a big difference in the drafts. Well worth the savings and money spent.

Who is Boston Bi-Glass ?

Owner - Chris is an Industrial and System Engineering (BS) graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology. My approach is best summed up by a favorite saying from a professor in college:

There’s the right way to perform a task,

and then there’s all the other ways !

I have been an avid wood worker since going to my high school woodshop during summers in the late 1970’s.

I have totally enjoyed working with so many home owners in the metro Boston area, and have restored over 2,000 original wood windows for 13 successful years now.
