Welcome to Our Practice
Welcome to the pediatric dental and orthodontic practice of Dr. Shelby J. Smith.
In our Antioch, CA dental office, we treat children of all ages and provide comprehensive dentistry to see them from toddlerhood and into young adulthood. We believe in educating, empowering, and inspiring children to take pride in their smiles and in their oral care. We also believe that pediatric dentistry is a partnership between you—the parent or guardian—and your child’s dentist.
At Dr. Shelby's office, we spend time with you – sometimes up to an hour, helping you set up and maintain an excellent oral health routine at home for your child. This includes everything from nutritional counseling to brushing techniques, from inspiring your child's brushing habits to when he or she can see to their own oral care without assistance.
Quality Children’s Dentistry
We specialize in helping children feel comfortable in the dental setting, acclimating them to the sights and sounds of our dental practice. We offer iPads for distraction and prizes for a job well done. Our goal is to make the dental office fun and never scary for your little one.
Our pediatric dental and orthodontic services include:
- Preventive care—exams, x-rays, teeth cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants
- Restorative care—tooth-colored fillings, emergency dentistry, extractions
- Orthodontic care—interceptive, phase I, phase II, and surgical
Our preventive program follows guidelines established by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, which have been shown to lower a child’s risks for cavities and other specific oral health issues. These guidelines recommend twice-yearly dental exams and teeth cleanings—more frequent dental visits if your child has an oral health condition.
We Welcome Differently Abled Children
Dr. Shelby believes that everyone has the right to a healthy smile, and we work hard to accommodate children with special needs, including those who may be on the autism spectrum. We can block out quiet times—even times when our dental office is virtually empty—to help put your child at ease.
