MRA® (Meridian Regulatory Acupuncture) is a federally registered service mark of a simplified, scientifically-advanced System of Acupuncture. Developed in the early 1970s by Lupo T. Carlota,
a medical doctor born in the Philippines, it is also known as MRA Therapy or simply MRA.

The Developer Of MRA
Dr. Lupo T. Carlota, is a leading pioneer of the scientific study and practice of acupuncture. He is
one of the first to use acupuncture in the U.S. after
its public introduction in the early 1970s.
An outstanding medical doctor, he has a keen grasp of how to harness quantum bioenergetics in healing pain and mind-body disorders. He took acupuncture out of the dark ages by introducing a new, effective, science-based, yet simplified acupuncture. The result is MRA® (Meridian Regulatory Acupuncture.)
MRA aims to optimize the neuro-psycho-immune system and the body's powerful natural healing mechanisms against pain and disease.
An original thinker, Dr. Carlota posited the “Quantum Theory of Acupuncture,” in 1976 during the International Acupuncture Society Convention held in Taipei, Taiwan. There he explained for the first time how and why acupuncture works from a scientific perspective.
The novel postulate ushered a major paradigm shift in explaining the mechanisms of acupuncture. It was regarded as a breakthrough that marked a radical departure from the ancient tenets that had subserved the foundations of acupuncture over the last five thousand years. And transformed acupuncture to an advanced science of healing with MRA (Meridian Regulatory Acupuncture.)
In 1983, he was invited to speak about his scientific findings which won the accolade of his peers at the medical centers of Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai.
On December 17, 1993, Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos presented the “Pamana Ng Pilipino” (Legacy of the Filipino Nation) Award to the distinguished Philippine-born physician at the Presidential Palace in Manila “for his outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of medicine, particularly through pioneering efforts in modern scientific acupuncture research…” This prestigious award confers the Philippines’ highest honors for exemplary service by any Filipino overseas.
In 1974, Dr. Carlota founded and now directs MARIA (Medical Acupuncture Research Institute of America,) an institution of higher learning that devotes to the study and practice of advanced, scientifically-based acupuncture for western-trained physicians.
Over the last 51 years, he has successfully trained hundreds of doctors in the skillful
use of MRA against pain and mind-body disorders.
