Founded in 1998, Simtech Solutions Inc. provides technical solutions to support communities effectively understand and address the issue of homelessness. Our tools and staff help regions quantify the extent of the problem, isolate the contributing factors, and implement data-driven decision making processes into daily operations.

Our HMIS Data Warehouse enables communities to gather data from various systems used throughout your CoC to streamline your federal reporting processes, annual NOFA Rating and Ranking process, and evaluate your system performance. Simtech Solutions is the industry-leading provider of mobile tech to support the annual HUD Point in Time count. Our app, Counting Us, is the most widely used mobile app designed specifically for the HUD Point in Time count. Recognized by HUD and CityLab, this work is having an unprecedented impact on the integrity of our nation's annual homeless count.


Our clients comprise over 1/8th of the HUD regions across the US, which account for over 30% of US census tracts, providing both a breadth and depth of information that can be leveraged to prevent people from ever falling into homelessness.

Our Experience

At our core, Simtech Solutions Inc. is a cause-driven technology services provider. We provide reporting services for multiple HMIS vendors, work with HUD as Technical Assistance providers, serve as HMIS administrators for several communities, led the development and ongoing management of a statewide HMIS system in Massachusetts, and work directly with regions to design and administer effective coordinated entry systems. Simtech also developed mobile technology for the annual point-in-time homeless count that was used by 50+ communities in more than thirteen states. Examples of our work include:

HOMELESS DATA PIONEERS

Developed the first HMIS data warehouse in the nation leading to groundbreaking research
In 2002, we developed the first HMIS data warehouse in the nation. Research conducted in the warehouse helped propel the Housing First movement by effectively demonstrating the cost savings realized from providing housing to frequent users of shelter and emergency services.

HUD SPECIFICATION AUTHORS

Tapped by HUD as primary authors reporting specifications and data exchange formats
HUD tapped Simtech as primary authors of reporting specifications and data exchange formats relied on by HMIS. Key work includes the APR Programming Specifications and HUD CSV Exchange Format used to standardize data exchange.

PIT COUNT EXPERTS

The Counting Us mobile app has an unprecedented impact on our nation’s annual homeless count.
The Counting Us mobile app used by forty-seven (47) regions to conduct the 2019 Point-in-Time homeless census in real-time. Recognized by HUD and CityLab, this work is having an unprecedented impact on the integrity of our nation’s annual homeless count.

FLEXIBLE APPLICATIONS

Leveraging our existing tech for recovery efforts in response to COVID-19 and Hurricane Harvey
The Counting Us mobile app, and the “by name lists” managed within HomelessData.com, were rapidly deployed in San Diego’s COVID-19 response plan and by Houston and the Texas Balance of State CoCs to aid over 2,000 evacuees during the disaster recovery after Hurricane Harvey.

Youth Homeless Counts

We supported the State of Connecticut’s youth count during which more than 5,000 surveys were conducted of homeless and precariously housed youth.
The survey was designed specifically for this population and are personalized so that only questions that are relevant to the person being interviewed are asked.
