Handcrafted Qiviut Clothing & Accessories in Anchorage, AK
Qiveut Design is a family-run business rooted in Alaskan tradition and craftsmanship. Founded by Margaret Rye, a second-generation Alaskan, we specialize in creating heirloom-quality qiviut garments that blend practicality with artistic excellence. Margaret honed her skills over 19 years under the mentorship of award-winning fiber artist Colleen White, mastering the intricate processes of weaving, knitting, and dyeing qiviut. Our studio in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, 50 miles north of Anchorage, serves as the heart of our operations, where each product is meticulously handcrafted by Margaret, her family, and a dedicated team of local artisans. We source qiviut exclusively from Alaskan musk oxen, both wild and domesticated, ensuring ethical and sustainable practices. The fiber is processed in small batches, dyed using techniques that preserve its natural softness, and transformed into garments designed to last decades. Our commitment to quality is reflected in every stitch, from hand-combed fibers to final finishing touches. We proudly participate in Anchorage's Downtown Saturday Market during summer months, offering direct engagement with our community. As a certified 'Made in Alaska' business (Permit #4599), we uphold rigorous standards of authenticity and local production. Our work celebrates both the heritage of Alaskan fiber arts and the timeless warmth of qiviut, a material eight times warmer than sheep's wool. Through meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to tradition, we provide customers with unparalleled luxury and durability in every custom-made piece.
