Welcome to Old St. Mary's Cathedral & Chinese Mission
Old St. Mary's Cathedral & Chinese Mission is a vibrant Catholic community dedicated to celebrating faith, hope, and love of God. Our mission is to foster sacred worship, build inclusive community, and share the Good News of Jesus Christ through liturgical services, spiritual programs, and outreach initiatives. Established in 1852, we serve diverse congregations through English and Cantonese ministries, sacramental preparation, Bible studies, and cultural events.

Our historic San Francisco cathedral, which survived the 1906 earthquake, offers daily Mass, adoration, confession by appointment, and hospitality programs that emphasize connection through shared meals. We provide resources for spiritual growth, relationship support, and community engagement while maintaining a legacy of service as a ministry of the Paulist Fathers.

We offer daily and Sunday Mass services with English and Cantonese liturgical options. Weekend Masses occur Saturday at 5:00 PM and Sundays at 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM. Weekday Masses are held Tuesday through Friday at 12:05 PM. Our historic cathedral provides a sacred space for worship that has served San Francisco since 1852.
Sacramental Preparation
Our OCIA program guides individuals through Catholic faith exploration and sacramental preparation. We offer infant baptism, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, marriage preparation, and funeral Mass services. These programs help participants deepen their relationship with Christ through traditional Catholic rites and modern pastoral care.
Community Hospitality
After Sunday Masses, we host hospitality gatherings with refreshments and social connection. Parishioners and visitors share fellowship, prayers, and support while continuing our mission to 'go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.' This tradition reflects Christ's ministry around food and our commitment to making everyone feel loved and welcomed.
Spiritual Programs
We provide Bible studies in English and Cantonese, spirituality resources for Ordinary Time, and relationship programs like CoupleTalk and Third Option. Our offerings include Advent and Lenten reflections, first Friday adoration, and special events like the Black Catholic Awareness celebration that deepen faith and community engagement.
Pastoral Care
Confession appointments are available with our Paulist priests. We offer pastoral guidance through life's challenges, including grief support through funeral Masses and spiritual direction. Our team provides personalized care that emphasizes God's mercy and the importance of human connection in living out our faith mission.
