Clifton Steamboat Museum - Beaumont's Historical Art & Heritage Hub
The Clifton Steamboat Museum was founded in 1995 by David W. Hearn, Jr., a passionate historian dedicated to preserving the legacy of military and civilian heroes. Inspired by childhood memories of his grandfather, H.J. Clifton, Sr., Hearn created a space to honor his family's history while showcasing pivotal moments in Southeast Texas and Louisiana. Our 24,000-square-foot facility features exhibits spanning the Steamboat era, World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and a dedicated Boy Scout gallery with artifacts dating to the 1960s. Original bronze sculptures, Native American art, and frontier paintings highlight our Upper art galleries. The museum's centerpiece, the 1938 tugboat Hercules, stands outside as a testament to industrial heritage. We offer accessible facilities for all visitors and host events for groups up to 300. Despite temporary closure due to flood damage, we remain committed to educational tours and community engagement. Our team combines decades of historical expertise with a dedication to storytelling, ensuring every visitor connects with the region's rich past. The museum's restored Clifton family bedroom and curated artifacts reflect our attention to detail and authenticity. We continue to serve as a cultural landmark, bridging history with contemporary appreciation.
