St John Missionary Bapt Church Richmond CA
St John Missionary Bapt Church was founded in 1943 through the vision of a small group of prayer warriors seeking to establish a spiritual home on Richmond's south side. Under the leadership of our first pastor, Reverend James Brown, we purchased our initial property at 47th Street and Wall Avenue, officially organizing as St John Missionary Bapt Church in 1944. Over eight decades, we've grown from a humble prayer band to a multi-campus ministry serving two communities, maintaining our core mission to evangelize sinners and equip saints while actively engaging in community outreach through educational programs, housing initiatives, and weekly grocery giveaways. Our current sanctuary at 662 South 52nd Street was completed in 1984 following a successful bond program, and we continue to expand our impact through modern initiatives like online worship services and virtual learning platforms.Pastor Kevin B. Hall has led our congregation since 1994, guiding our development of administrative buildings, north campus facilities, and ongoing construction of the St. John Family Life Center. We maintain strong historical ties to Richmond's African-American community as the city's second oldest predominantly Black church, preserving our legacy while adapting to contemporary needs through 21st-century ministry tools. Our three worship locations at Bissell Avenue, South Campus, and North Campus provide comprehensive spiritual and social services to congregants across the Bay Area.
