Antique Gas & Steam Engine in Vista, CA
Since 1976, the Antique Gas & Steam Engine has served as a premier educational and recreational facility in North San Diego County. Our mission focuses on preserving and demonstrating late 1800s to early 1960s American technology through hands-on exhibits and interactive experiences. Incorporated in 1994, we maintain a unique collection of operating machinery, including steam traction engines, sawmills, and gas engines, while hosting events and educational programs that engage visitors of all ages. As a parent organization to specialized groups like the California Blacksmith Association and West Coast Clock & Watch Exhibit, we combine historical preservation with community-driven learning. Our volunteer-led docent and demonstrator programs ensure authentic experiences during public hours and special events.

With 55 acres of exhibits and facilities, we provide immersive opportunities to explore traditional crafts through blacksmithing, fiber arts, glasswork, and pottery classes. Our commitment to operational authenticity sets us apart from conventional museums, allowing visitors to witness and participate in living history demonstrations. Through partnerships and educational outreach, we continue expanding access to historical technologies while maintaining rigorous preservation standards. Our facility also serves as a venue for community events, combining historical context with modern engagement. This dedication to experiential learning and historical stewardship has made us a regional cultural landmark.
