New Psalmist Baptist Church

Founded in 1899, New Psalmist Baptist Church has served as a spiritual cornerstone in Baltimore, Maryland for over a century. Our history began with Rev. Junius Gray establishing the Right Independent Freewill Baptist Church in a basement with fewer than twenty members. Through visionary leadership from Rev. Atkins and Bishop Walter S. Thomas, we expanded from a small congregation to a thriving community of over 7,000 active members. Our three-year discipleship program, daily Bible study classes, and leadership training initiatives reflect our commitment to spiritual growth. We pioneered the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors, now led by Bishop Thomas as Presiding Prelate, impacting thousands through our 4,000-seat worship facility.

Our community outreach feeds 100 families monthly and assists over 500 families annually at Christmas while offering environmental stewardship classes. With nationally televised broadcasts and Wednesday noon-day worship services, we extend our ministry beyond Baltimore. Our legacy of growth continues through modern facilities built in 1996 and 2010, maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation. We remain dedicated to connecting individuals with Christ through worship, education, and service opportunities. Our history of overcoming challenges demonstrates God's blessings through three generations of faithful leadership.
