Traditional Shotokan Karate Training in Fresno
Founded in 2008, Japan Ways Traditional Karate was established by senior black belts dedicated to preserving the teachings of the late Shihan Robert Halliburton. Our dojo in Fresno, CA, provides a family-oriented environment where students of all ages develop discipline, physical fitness, and mastery of traditional Shotokan Karate-Do. Led by Sensei Steven Wong (7th degree black belt) and Sensei Cleo Martin (6th degree black belt), our instructors collectively bring over 260 years of experience, making us one of the most experienced karate schools in the United States. As members of the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF) and its U.S. affiliate, we offer access to world-renowned instructors through regular seminars and international events.

Our flexible training schedule includes unlimited classes six days a week, with no contracts required, allowing students to train at their own pace. We emphasize traditional values while maintaining modern safety standards, requiring protective gear for sparring and offering family-friendly rates to encourage multigenerational participation. Our commitment to quality instruction has earned recognition through successful rank promotions and certifications awarded directly by master instructors like Fumitoshi Kanazawa Sensei. Whether pursuing personal growth or competitive excellence, our students benefit from a structured curriculum that honors the legacy of our founders while adapting to contemporary needs.
