Acadian Religious & Gift Shop was opened on February 1, 1963 in the South College Shopping Center (the oldest shopping center in Lafayette) by Art and Marie Garrett Jr. Although not still in the current location in the heart, Acadian Religious & Gift Shop began out as a 750 square foot store (still the only original retail tenant in the heart) Then in 1967 when a vacancy came up next-door the wall was broken down and the retail space doubled to 1500 square feet, and remained there for the next 28 years.
