Bar Club in Roanoke, VA On January 1, 1892, fifteen year old Annie Moore stepped off a ferryboat in New York City harbor to become the 1st registered immigrant to pass through Ellis Island, the now famous immigration center. The young Irish girl from County Cork and two younger brothers had spent the previous two weeks, including Christmas, crossing the Atlantic Ocean aboard the S. S Nevada to join their parents, already living in New York. The ship arrived in port the night of December 31, 1891, the kids and their fellow passengers were transferred by ferry from the ship to Ellis Island the following morning.
