Anne Sexton, who won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1967, published a selection of poems called Transformations in 1971. Composer Conrad Susa set ten of the tales Sexton re-imagined-including Rumpelstiltskin and Hansel and Gretel as well as the less familiar Iron Hans and Godfather Death-to a kaleidoscopic score that mixes classical and popular musical styles, with (in Susa's words) borrowings from the musical cookie jar of the last three centuries.
