From the moment he arrived in Nebraska in 1877, John W. Barnhart made the correct impression on clients. J. W. Started his career as a newspaper publisher and job printer in SE Nebraska. But in 1908, he decided to concentrate on commercial printing, moved to Omaha and established the Waters Barnhart Printing Company in downtown Omaha. In the 1920s, the name was changed to Barnhart Press while the business continued to serve clients both huge and tiny.
