One evening in October of 1936, just before the shop was closing, a muddy Model A pulled into the Ford agency on fifth Street between Washington and Columbus. Jack Kultgen got out and introduced himself as the new operator of the store that he and Arthur Bird, a San Antonio investor, had just purchased. Since that evening, Bird-Kultgen Ford has been a trusted fixture in the Waco area. No other dealership and very few other businesses have managed to develop to understand the changing requirements of Central Texans through a depression, five wars, several recessions, and all the nice times in between.
